Cissey 360,000 euros (exc kitchen) available Spring 2010
We were thrilled to discover this gorgeous original stone cottage and bring it back to life as a charming and authentic two-bedroom home.
With views out over the surrounding fields, this typical Burgundy cottage sits at the edge of the pretty farming village of Cissey. Dating back to 1820, the cottage lay uninhabited for at least half a century, and is now being sensitively refurbished and extended to add light and space whilst retaining every ounce of its original character.
The double-pitched roof will be completely rebuilt, fully insulated and retiled. The stone walls will be sandblasted and re-jointed. The original features include oak beams which will be waxed and treated to enhance their natural colour.
The spacious entrance hall with separate wc/cloakroom leads through to the open plan living and dining area, that in turn opens onto a private south-facing walled garden with its own well. The original stone fireplace is the central feature of the living room and will be restored to full working order. The new kitchen enjoys a sweeping view of the Burgundy countryside.
From the hallway, the oak staircase takes you up to the master bedroom with large en-suite bathroom and private south-facing roof terrace. There’s also a second double bedroom with en-suite shower room, and both enjoy lofty ceilings revealing the original oak beams.
This cottage is the perfect setting for memorable holidays in France, or for permanent residence – and the gravel driveway provides ample off-street parking space for two cars.
