Rising above the surrounding vineyards, clusters of stone houses climb the gentle slopes towards the village square with its magnificent town hall and historic church whose elegant steeple creates the focal point for miles around.
A bustling town, Meursault has many shops, and restaurants, the main post office for the villages south of Beaune and a farmers market every Friday morning. But the main business is the wine. With over 100 independent wine domaines, it boasts the largest premier cru and village white wine production of the Cote d’Or.
In all directions, the landscape is dominated by vineyards. Throughout the year it is fascinating and educational to watch the vignerons tending their crop. There are many walking trails and cycle paths allowing public access through the vineyards and the beautiful stone walls provide convenient vantage points to take in the views and enjoy a peaceful picnic.
There are many fetes and festivals held throughout the year. Summertime being the busiest with several international music festivals held in the gardens of many of Meursault’s grand chateaux.
