Situated slightly more than eight kilometers south of Beaune in the heart of the famous Burgundy vineyards, Puligny-Montrachet is a deceptively sleepy village. It lies at the foot of a band of vines producing some of the greatest and most expensive white wine in the world.
Although it is considerably smaller that either of its two neighbours, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, the village can boast two of Burgundy's six white wine Grand Crus and for this reason it is a favourite destination keenly sought by wine lovers the world over.
The village forms a pretty cluster of stone houses in between and around two main squares; Place Marronniers is home to the local café bar as well as the larger restaurant and hotel, Le Montrachet which over looks the shaded grassy square where the village holds its many brocantes and fetes. The boulangerie is found in Le Place du Monument as is the hotel/restaurant Maison Le Flaive where you can enjoy lunch and dinner tasting menus to complement its own production of Puligny Montrachet wine.
